World Athletics: Masbah finishes 17th in preliminary heats

Bangladesh’s fastest man Masbah Ahmed finished 17th among 26 athletes in the preliminary heats of the men’s 100-meter sprint of the 15th IAAF World Championship that began on Saturday at the National Stadium in Beijing.
Celebrated athlete of the country Masbah Ahmed took part in heat number-3 of the preliminary round heats and was placed 7th among nine participants with a timing of 11.13 seconds to eliminate from the meet on the very first day.
Jeffrey Vanan of Surinam clinched the top slot in nine-man heat number-3 clocking 10.55 seconds to qualify for the next round of final heat.
Barakat Mubarak Al Harthi of Oman topped the list in overall 26-man preliminary round heats with a timing of 10.31 seconds in the morning to qualify for the next round of final heats.
In the final heats of seven rounds in the afternoon, Justin Gatlin of USA top list among 53 contestants with a timing 9.83 seconds, followed by Trayvon Bromell of USA clocking 9.91 seconds, Jimmy Vicaut of France with 9.92 seconds and Asafa Powell of Jamaica with 9.95 seconds.
