Nurjahan Begum, widow of martyred Freedom Fighter (FF) Abdur Razzak Biswas, on Monday testified in the trial of engineer Abdul Jabbar at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, blaming the fugitive former Jatiya Party MP for the killing of her husband.
“On May 16, 1971, we heard that Jabbar from a public meeting ordered his followers in Razakar Bahini to present my husband and fellow FF Motaleb Sharif in front of him dead or alive. Following the order, Razakars shot Motaleb dead as he was trying to flee and shot at my husband injuring him fatally. The bullet made a gushing wound in his lower abdomen,” the 70-year-old witness said.
“I along with my injured husband took shelter in the house of a neighbor. Razakars raided our house again the next day and set it on fire after looting it. I then took my husband to village Rayenda, Bagerhat, where my husband died of his wound three days later,” she added.
At the concluding stage of her deposition, the witness sought justice for the death of her husband, blaming Jabbar for the incident.
After her deposition, advocate Mohammad Abul Hasan, state-appointed defence counsel for Jabbar, cross-examined her and the tribunal then adjourned the hearing till today.
The ICT-1 on August 14 indicted Jabbar, chairman of Mathbaria unit of Peace Committee in Pirojpur during the War of Liberation, framing five charges of crimes against humanity against him.
