A mobile court on Monday sentenced one-month imprisonment to eight persons including the marriage registrar for arranging marriage of five underage girls in Moheshpur Upazila of the district.
Executive magistrate of the mobile court Chowdhury Raushan Islam conducted operation at Fatehpur union parishad office and pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are–Jamal Hossain and his son bride Omar Ali, Noor Islam, son of Abdul Bari of Purandarpur village, Shikha Khatun, wife of Farooque Hossain of Fatehpur village, Sabina Khatun, wife of Azizul Islam of Nimtala village, bride Polash, son of Kabir Uddin of Khilkhet in Dhaka, Halima Begum-wife of Jakir Gain of
Fatehpur village and marriage registrar Hafizur Rahman.
Apart from one-month imprisonment, they have also been fined at taka 15 thousand each.
UNO Ashafur Rahman, Upazila women affairs officer Saiful Islam, Upazila Social Welfare Officer Julfikar Ali, Upazila secondary education officer Abdul Bari and chairman of Fatehpur union parishad Sirajul Islam were also present during the mobile court operation.
