Bangladesh Dokan Malik Samity has announced to keep all the markets and shops in the country closed on March 17 next in observance of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The organisation announced it in a press release on Sunday.
The decision was taken by the Bangladesh Dokan Malik Samity at a meeting on Saturday. Its president Md Helal Uddin and secretary general Md Zahirul Huq Bhuiyan said about the decision through the press release.
The press release said that markets and shops in the country would remain closed on March 17 in observance of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary.
At the same time, the shop owners have been requested to illuminate their markets on that day.
Apart from the organisation’s president and secretary general, the meeting of the Bangladesh Dokan Malik Samity was attended by FBCCI director Abdur Razzak, Abu Motaleb and Hafez Harun, leaders of different trade bodies Rezaul Islam Montu, Nurul Islam, Humayun Kabir Azad, Atiqur Rahman, Bivor Chandra Dey, valinat freedom fighter SM Shamsul Huque, SM Abu Sayeed Sufi, Intesar Ahmed Chowdhury, Shahadat Hossain, Anwar Hossain Litu, Golam Rasul and Farhad Rana.
Bangladesh Dokan Malik Samity president Helal Uddin said all the markets and shopping complexes will remain closed. However, kitchen markets, shops selling essentials, and medicine shops will remain open.
