Stock market ended the week flat in green zone on Thursday, with the broader price index closing above psychological 4800-point level amidst cautious trading of investors.
Three out of the five trading sessions at both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges closed lower, plunging their major indices and daily transactions significantly down. The market barometers at the twine bourses, however, took a u-turn on Wednesday that continued till the end of the week on Thursday.
DSEX, the major index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished the week at 4812.82, which was 7.16 percent up from the previous session, but was 27.34 points down from the last week’s close. Similarly, the blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES closed the week higher at 1850.95 and 1190.94 respectively, but the indices also ended lower compared to their last week’s close.
The average daily turnover in value was also 22.8 percent down at Taka 435.39 crore this week when the trade volume fell by 22.37 percent to 11.21 crore shares over the previous week’s transactions.
Telecom and power stocks supported the market this week with weekly return of 1.57 percent and 0.56 percent respectively when the market’s trailing P/E stood at 15.93.
Among the major gaining sectors were miscellaneous (2.87 percent), telecommunication (1.57 percent) and fuel and power (0.56 percent). The major losing sectors were mutual fund (-3.09 percent), ceramic (-3.03 percent) and engineering (-2.69 percent).
