Market closes week down on falling large-cap shares

Stock market closed on Thursday down for another week due mainly to the continuous fall in the large-cap securities on its sell pressure.
During this week, GP, Squire Pharma, BATBC, Lafarge Surma, ICB, UPGDCL, Titas Gas and SPPCL suffered major fall. Zeal Bangla and One Bank were also among the major losing issues when food & allied and cement were most lagging sectors.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the week 75.79 points or 1.70 percent lower at 4370.50, with the blue-chip DS30 closing 37.85 points or 2.24 percent down at 1655.46 and the Shariah DSES losing 20.74 points or 1.92 percent to 1059.71.
The average daily trade value at DSE fell by 2.61 percent to Taka 367.74 crore, but the volume rose by 33.49 percent to 11.72 crore shares due to sell pressure. Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the week lower, with its CSCX index falling marginally to 8182.10.
Despite the sell pressure, engineering and miscellaneous sectors advanced moderately, with Keya Cosmetic, Libra Infusion, BSRM Limited, Eastern Lubricant and Savar Ref taking the top five positions among the gainers’ companies.
The top turnover leaders of the week were Keya Cosmetic, BSRM Limited, Squire Pharma, Emerald Oil and AFC Agro.
