The Maritime Safety Week-2018 will be observed across the country today to create awareness among the people on maritime laws and shipping related safety measures.
The government has chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the week.
The theme of this year’s Maritime Safety Week is “Modernization begins in shipping industry – we seek journeys to be safe”.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan will inaugurate the week at a programme at Bangladesh Shishu Academy today.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday issued separate messages on the eve of the week with a call to all concerned to ensure safe shipping in the country.
In his message, the President said the importance of shipping is immense in socio-economic development in the riverine Bangladesh.
