Maritime ports asked to hoist signal No 3

A monsoon low lies over west Bengal and adjoining area. Under its influence, steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay. Squally weather may affect North Bay, adjoining coastal area of Bangladesh and the maritime ports.
The Met office hoists its cautionary signal number three for maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra, said a Met office bulletin.
Under the influence of monsoon low and full moon, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by tidal surge of 2-4 feet height above normal astronomical tide, said the bulletin.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
