Maritime ports asked to hoist signal No 1

The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal No 1 as sea will remain rough following the deep depression formed over the North Andaman sea and adjoining area. The deep depression moved slightly westwards over the same area. It centred at 6 am on Wednesday about 1155 kms south-southeast of Chittagong port, 1060 kms south-southeast of Cox’s Bazar port, 1225 kms southeast of Mongla port and 1165 kms southeast of Payra port It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction, said a Met office special weather bulletin.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kms of the depression centre is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain rough near the system.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal No 1. All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised not to venture into the deep sea till further notice.
