Maritime ports asked to hoist distant warning signal 2

Maritime ports in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant warning signal no. two as cyclonic storm ‘Vardah’ over the southeast Bay and adjoining area moved slightly west -northwestwards. At 6am on Saturday, the storm was centered at about 115 km south of Chittagong port, 1,040 km south of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,105 km south of Mongla port and 1,060 km south of Payra port, according to a Met office bulletin.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a west northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the storm centre is about 90 kph, rising to 115kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain rough. All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
