Manzoor murder Time plea of IO granted

A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) granted the time petition of the Investigation Officer (IO) allowing him to submit his further investigation report on August 13 in the Manzoor murder case.
Judge SM Saiful Islam of the First Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order after a brief hearing. Earlier, on March 12, the same court allowed two more months to IO Abdul Kahar Akand, a Special Police Super of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to complete his investigation in the murder case lodged in connection with the murder of freedom fighter Major General Abul Manzoor Ahmed, Bir Uttam. The court, so far
deferred the date six times.
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad and also a Special Envoy to the Prime Minister, is the main accused in the case. Other two accused persons are retired Major Kazi Emdadul Haque and Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Mostafa Kamal Bhuiyan. However, as per High Court order, the trial proceedings of the case against Major General (retired) Abdul Latif and Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Shamsur Rahman Shams remained suspended.
On February 10 last year, the verdict of the case was scheduled to be pronounced but the newly appointed Judge of the court Khandaker Hasan M Firoz in place of the previous judge decided for fresh hearing of the case.
On February 28, 1995, after 14 years of the murder, the deceased’s elder brother Advocate Abul Mansur Ahmed filed a murder cases with Panchlaish Police Station of Chittagong port city. Manzoor was taken to Chittagong Cantonment from the police custody and killed there on June 1, 1981.
