Maximum returnees from abroad are still staying out of home-quarantine in the capital, divisional cities and districts amid the coronovirus outbreak across the world.
Several thousand expatiates have engaged in different types of activities, including fishing, marketing and meeting with relatives defying the government pre-caution instructions due to lack of monitoring by the authorities concerned, report our district correspondents.
The countrymen have become frightened to gather the experience of poor number of quarantined people. They are apprehending quick spreading of the virus as the maximum returnees have already gone out of the net of law enforcing agencies.
Even most of the quarantined men are unwilling to follow the instructions as they allege there are no available facilities of treatment and other services, the correspondents further added.
The common people also expressed deep concern as the government did not take all the returnees to quarantine from airports and land ports.
However, they applauded the government as it has taken various steps, including closure of all educational institutions, to rein the coronavirus, according to them.
The government has made it compulsory for Bangladeshis returning from abroad to undergo 14-day quarantine that almost un-followed, they further said.
In Cumilla, 870 expatriates out of 1,400 have taken quarantine in the district. They returned from different countries this month, said Cumilla district Civil Surgeon Dr. Neatuzzaman.
Local sources said all of the people at the home quarantine are expatriates. They came from different countries of the world, including Italy, Dubai, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Dr Neatuzzaman said everyone at the home quarantine has been advised to adhere to health instructions. If anyone disobeys the rules, the administration will take necessary action against him.
In Feni, only 164 expatriates out of 1,125 have taken quarantine in the district. They returned from different countries this month, reports District Civil Surgeon Office.
In Khulna, 30 overseas returnees out of 546 have been placed at home quarantine. They have recently returned home from Singapore, Oman and India, reports our district correspondent quoting Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed.
In Faridpur, the common people of Rajbari are panicked over the Coronavirus and they are also unaware of the disease, reports our district correspondent.
It is reported that the expatriates are traveling everywhere. In Baliyakandi upazila, families back from neighbouring country India are visiting the market at will.
In Sylhet, three suspected persons with fever have been kept under observation at the Quarantine Unit at the Shaheed Dr. Shamsuddin Hospital (Sadar hospital) in the Sylhet city. They include a student of a private university while the others are expatriates.
In Manikganj, a mobile court has fined a Saudi Arabia returnee Tk 10,000 for violating rules of home quarantine. Lal Miah, 40, son of Taru Miah, is a resident of Brammonbari village of Saturia upazila. Lal Miah went out of his house during his quarantine period.
A mobile court, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Saturia upazila and Executive Magistrate Ashraful Alam, fined him.
In capital, 542 Bangladeshis, who returned from Italy, which recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe, have been quarantined at Ashkona Hajj Camp in Dhaka, but they went on demonstrations against keeping them quarantined.
In Bogura, a number of 94 returnees went out of touch of law enforcing agencies in the district. The number was recorded as 103 expatriates out of 199 have been taken quarantine recently.
In Satkhira, only 169 expatriates out of 8,868 have taken quarantine in the district. They returned from different countries from March 1 to March 18 this year, said a list of the District Civil Surgeon Office.
In Narayanganj, only 73 expatriates out of 5,000 have taken quarantine in the district. They returned from abroad this month, said District Civil Surgeon Mohammad Imtiaj.
We are searching the returnees but they are out of tracing of the law enforcing agencies, he said.
In Panchagarh, only 9 expatriates out of 900 have taken quarantine in the district. They returned from different countries this month, said sources of the District Civil Surgeon Office.
In Rangamati, only 9 expatriates out of 243 have taken quarantine in the district. They returned from different countries this month, reports District Civil Surgeon Office.
In Natore, only 27 expatriates out of 1,200 have taken quarantine in the district. They returned from abroad this month, reports District Civil Surgeon Office.
In Bhola, only 430 expatriates out of 7,175 have taken quarantine in the district. They returned from different countries this month, reports District Civil Surgeon Office.
