Locals blocked Sonaimuri- Laksam road and torched a pick up van in Bogadia Bridge area of Sonaimuri upazila protesting the death of a man in a road accident here on Monday morning.
Abdul Gafur, 46, a resident of Bogadia village and an employee of Sonaimuri upazila health complex, was killed as the mango-laden pick-up hit him on the road around 7am, leaving him dead on the spot, said Haniful Islam, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station.
As the news spread, local people took to the streets and torched the killer pick up van. They also laid a barricade on the road.
On information, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot, and according to the update received at UNB news desk at 10pm, they are still trying to control the situation.
