Healthcare services at Koyra Upazila Health Complex, the lone government healthcare centre for over 3.5 lakh people in the upazila, are seriously being hampered for lack of manpower.
Sources said the 31-bed the health complex built in 1964 was upgraded to a 50-bed one in 2004.
Despite infrastructural development, they said, the capacity of the health complex did not increase to provide the desired services for manpower crisis.
Some 80 posts, out of 170, including that of health assistant, nurse, ward boy and sweeper for the emergency department, have been lying vacant for a long time, according to the sources.
They said there is no physician for conducting anesthesia, surgery, gynecology, pediatric, ENT, orthopedic, cardiology, ophthalmology and dermatology departments of the health complex.
The posts of indoor medical officer, emergency medical officer and four senior staff nurses are also lying vacant.
Dr Sujat Ahmed, a family planning officer of the health complex, said he has sent a letter to the civil surgeon of Khulna on August 10 seeking steps to fil up the vacant posts immediately.
