Manpower export to the country’s potential markets increased by one percent only over that of 2013, but less by 32 percent compared with 2012.
The country, however, witnessed 5.93 percent increase in earning foreign remittance.
A survey report on ‘International Labour Migration from Bangladesh -2014; Achievement and Challenges’ by Refugee and Migration Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) in association of Manusher Jonno Foundation disclosed this in a press briefing at the National Press Club on Sunday afternoon.
RMMRU Chair Dr Tasnim Siddique read out the report said that the number of migrated people was 6,07,799 in 2012,, 4,09,253 in 2013, and 4,11,000 in 2014 indicating 1,747 augmentation till December 22 this year over that of last year.
The one percent rising in migration has been possible for the increase of female migration. Some 67,583 women migrated till November this year, marking an increase of 11,183 workers over the previous year.
Eighty-four percent of the total male and female workers had gone to the Middle East. Oman ranked top position in receiving the highest workers from Bangladesh this year and second is Qatar.
No progress can be found in sending workers to Saudi Arabia. About 10,478 people from our country migrated there this year. Besides, the number of migration has decreased in Singapore.
The number of skilled migrated manpower has also increased. Some 35.78 percent of
the total workers were skilled hands compared with 19.94 percent in 2013. The female outclasses male in this field.
Comilla (9.99 pc) and Chittagong (6.62pc) districts have ranked first and second position respectively as sources of migrated people.
There are four percent quota in Expatriate Welfare and Migration Act-2014 for the people in North Bengal but it was not followed.
Our country has earned 14.50 billion US dollar till December 19, increasing by 5.3 percent. The reports thanked Bangladesh Bank for taking initiatives to bring more remittances.
The report said, the number of illegal migration through river route to Malaysia has also increased this year. Its number would be about 87,000 compared with 53,000 last year.
