A court here on Wednesday granted a 10-day police remand for Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna in a sedition case involving the army filed against him with Gulshan Police Station. Metropolitan magistrate Mahbubur Rahman passed the order when police produced captured Manna before it and sought remand. Earlier, sub-inspector Sohel Rana filed a case against Manna with the police station on Tuesday under section 131 of the Penal Code. The offence under BPC section 131 provides punishment with imprisonment for life or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to 10 years and also fine. Nearly 21 hours after he was picked up by plainclothes lawmen from a house at Banani early Tuesday, elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) confirmed the arrest of Manna and handed him over to Gulshan Police Station. –UNB, Dhaka.
