UNB, Dhaka :Despite colleting the nomination paper for contesting the upcoming mayoral election to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) , Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, now in custody in connection with sedition charges, did not submit the nomination.The deadline for submitting the nomination papers expired on Sunday. Manna’s wife Meher Nigar at a press conference at her Gulshan house demanded proper treatment of her detained husband as he has been suffering from chronic heart ailment with several blocks. Asked about Manna’s participation in the DNCC mayoral election, she said, “The matter is political and it depends on his party decision. We know nothing about politics.”Meher Nigar also said, “Our family members are not taking part in political activities. It’s urgent for us to save my husband, not the election.”According to police, Manna was arrested on February 24 in front of Star Kabab Hotel at Dhanmondi in the capital while his family claimed that he was picked up a day before by plainclothes lawmen from a house at Banani.The detention took place a day after leaked audio phone conversations revealing that Manna was ‘plotting’ to oust the Hasina government through violence, murder and by meeting with senior military officers.
