Chittagong Bureau :Manjoor Alam’s chief election agent BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Tuesdday claimed that about 80 per cent polling centres were captured by the ruling party activists and the security forces were ‘mute spectators’ all the time. Addressing the press conference, Manjur also claimed that ruling party men had occupied various voting stations and his agents were not allowed to enter into many centres. He said that he had complained it to the Returning Officer. In this context, he mentioned that he had defeated Awami League-supported mayor candidate ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the 2010 polls by 95,000 votes. “I’m boycotting the election and pulling myself out of the race,” Manjur told reporters. “It is my last election. I’m bowing out of politics.””There is no polling atmosphere. My supporters have been attacked in different areas. So, I have decided to put out from race,” he said. Chittagong city BNP president and chief election agent of Manjoor, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the party boycotted polling in protest against irregularities, vote rigging and occupying of polling centres under the shadow of law enforcers. BNP Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, among others, was present at the press conference.
