UNB, Dhaka :
Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said the government is keeping an eye on people trying to manipulate the Rohingya issue.
“Action will be taken against them at proper time,” he told a meeting organised by Jubo Mohila League on the
National Mourning Day at Awami League central office in the city. He trashed claims that Rohingyas will never leave Bangladesh. Quader said the government is working to repatriate Rohingyas who are staying in Bangladesh for the time being.
More than 1.1 million Rohingyas are currently living in camps in Cox’s Bazar. Most of them came here after August 25, 2017 when the Myanmar army and their local collaborators launched a brutal offensive targeting the mainly-Muslim ethnic minority.
Responding to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s allegation that they did not have adequate security, Quader said: “I don’t think any other opposition party in South Asia enjoys the sort of security as them (the BNP).”
People will justify their allegation of insecurity, Quader said, adding that the opposition party leaders are moving freely and saying whatever they like.
AL office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Jubo Mohila League General Secretary Apu Ukil, Joint General Secretary Shamsunnahar Ratna, Koheli Kuddus Mukti among others were present with Jubo Mohila League President Nazma Akhtar in the chair.
