The 53rd death anniversary of Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia, legend journalist and the founder editor of the daily Ittefaq, was observed in the caption and elsewhere in the country on Wednesday.
Different organisations chalked out elaborate programmes on his life and work to observe the day in a befitting manner.
On the occasion of the death anniversary of Manik Mia, The New Nation, Weekly Robber and Manik Mia Foundation organised a Milad Mahfil and Doa Mahfil in the foundation’s auditorium after Asr prayers at 1, R.K Mission Road on Wednesday. His eldest son Barrister Mainul Hosein, Managing Director and publisher of The New Nation was present.
Meanwhile, a discussion meeting was held in Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall at the National Press Club at 3:30 pm on the day.
JP General Secretary and former Education Minister, Sheikh Shahidul Islam chaired the meeting. As distinguished guests Bangladesh Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon MP and eminent journalist Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, among others, attended the discussion.
Sheikh Shahidul Islam said, “Manik Mia is a dreamer of independent Bangladesh who carried his powerful pen till his death. He was a lifelong uncompromising fighter, a shining star in the world of Bengali intellectuals. As long as there is a vibrant Bangladesh, the grateful nation will remember this great personality with deep gratitude and love, he said.
Besides, ‘Manik Mia Parishad’ organised a discussion at 10:30 am yesterday at 18/1, Topkhana Road in the capital and ‘Bangladesh Human Rights Journalists Association’ also arranged a discussion at 11:30 am at the National Press Club.
Journalists, employees and workers of the daily Ittefaq also organized a Milad Mahfil followed by a Doa Mahfil at the daily yesterday afternoon.
