Manabzamin Editor sued for publishing ‘false’ news

Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Manabzamin Editor-in-Chief and 31 others have been sued on Monday night under the Digital Security Act for publishing false news and circulating it on social media.
Saifuzzaman Shekhor, a ruling party M.P. elected from Magura-1 constituency,
lodged the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station of the capital on Monday night, said Shujanur Islam, Sub-Inspector of the police station.
The case statement further says that the accused published a story on expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia. The story contained false information and the accused defamed him sharing it on the social media.
The accused have tried to create a negative impression on the people’s mind and to disrupt the law and order situation, the SI said quoting the case statement.
Other accused are: Al Amin, a staff reporter of the daily, who prepared the story, and some people, who shared the news on social media, he said.
