A man was killed in a shootout with the members of Detective Branch (DB) Police in the city’s Khilgaon area early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Lelin, 38, son of Abdur Rouf, from Rarishal village in Sreenagar upazila of
 Munshiganj district.
“Acting on a tip off, a team of DB started patrolling the area when Lelin and his cohorts opened fire on them forcing them to retaliate that triggered a “gunfight” around 3:30am,” said Moshiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Khilgaon Police Station.
After the criminals managed to flee the scene, Khilgaon police found bullet-hit Lelin and sent him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead, the OC said.
“He is one of the accused in the case filed for shooting three police officials during an anti-drug drive in Dhupkhola area of Dhaka on April 19. Lenin was also accused in 11 cases,,” the police official said.
Lenin was sentenced to death in a murder case filed in 2002, he added.
