Man to die for killing wife, son in Netrakona

UNB, Netrakona :
A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife and son in 2003.
The convict is Hashem, 35, son of late Iman Ali of Satia village in sadar upazila.
According to prosecution, Hashem picked up a quarrel with his wife Aysha Khatun over family feud on November 6,2003. At one stage, Hashem killed his wife and 11-month old son Tariqur and dumped their bodies in a nearby forest.
Police recovered the bodies on November 9, 2003. Rabeya Khatun, sister of Ayesha, filed a murder case against Hashem with Sadar Police Station on that day.
Police submitted chargesheet in the case accusing Hashem on January 7, 2004.
After examining the records and nine witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Hamid handed down the verdict.
Meanwhile, the court sentenced another man to life term imprisonment for killing a man in 2001.
The lifer is Shahjamal, 23, son of Mafiz Khan of Choygaon village in
Barohatta upazila. According to the prosecution, Shahjamal had borrowed TK 100 from one
Sabuj Mia while working in Feni as a day labourer here.

When Sabuj demanded the money back, an altercation ensued between
them on January 22, 2001. At one stage, Shahjamal hit Sabuj with a
stick, leaving him dead. A case was filed in this connection.

Additional District and Session Judge Abdul Hamid handed down the
verdict acquitting another accused.
