A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for strangling a minor boy to death in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj in 2011.
Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Md Rezaul Karim passed the order.
The convict Selim Ahmed, son of Mostab Ali of Pirpur village of Chhatak upazila, has been on the run.
According to the case statement, Selim killed minor boy Jubel in November 2011 as he had dispute with the boy’s father over a piece of land. On November 28, police recovered Jubel’s body from a pond in Pirpur village.
On the next day, the deceased’s family filed a case with the local police station accusing three people including Selim.
The case was later shifted to Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal from the local court.
However, the court acquitted two other accused as no evidence was found against them.
