A tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing a housewife after rape in 1999.
The convict was identified as Abdur Rahim, son of Golam Sobhan of West Sadhanpur village in Banshkhali upazila.
According to the prosecution, Abdur Rahim took Nurunnahar Begum, 16, wife of Abdul Aziz, to an isolated place at Chapchhari village while she was staying at her father’s house and violated her on March 24, 1999. Later, Abdur Rahim hit Nurunnahar with a sharp weapon, leaving her dead on the spot.
Police recovered the body of Nurunnahar on the following day. Sufia Begum, mother of the victim, filed a murder case with Banshkhali police station.
Police submitted chargesheet against Abdur Rahim on November 4, 1999. Later, the court framed charges against him on March 25, 2001.
