A man was shot dead by robbers at Poschim Awliya village in Sadar upazila early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Shahajan Hawlader, 45, a resident of the village.
Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a gang of robbers numbering 10-12 stormed in the house of local Mannan Master at the village by breaking the door around 1:30am.
Hearing screams of the house inmates, the neighbors including Shahjahan rushed to the house to help them.
Sensing danger, the robber gang opened fire at the villagers.
Shahjahan received bullet injuries and died on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Patuakhali General Hospital.
