A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for setting a teenage girl on fire after raping her in Daulatpur upazila in 2018.
The convict, Shahadat Hossain Sadhu, son of Latif Sheikh, is a resident of Shyampur village of the upazila.
Manikganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict.
According to case statement, Sadhu received her niece Akhi Akhter, 14, daughter of his wife’s sister, from her house in Savar to take her to her grandparent’s house in the village on October 20, 2018.
Later, after reaching the village, he took the girl to an abandoned house and raped her.
He then strangulated her before setting the victim on fire.
Police arrested Sadhu after the victim’s mother filed a case at Daulatpur Police Station against him on October 21, 2018.
