A 38-year-old man picked up a 16-year-old student from the road and raped her in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah on Thursday evening.
The victim is now receiving treatment at upazila health complex as she ingested pesticide after the incident.
Her family on Friday night filed a case with Kaliganj Police Station but police are yet to arrest the accused rapist Jugal Biswas, general secretary of management committee of a local temple.
Police and locals said the girl was on her way home from her uncle’s house around 7:00pm on Thursday when Jugal forcibly took her to a nearby irrigation pump room and raped her.
Jugal, caretaker of the pump, fled after rape.
As she didn’t return home, the family searched for her and found her in the pump room. She was later taken home where she ingested pesticide, they said.
Mahfuzur Rahman Mia, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station said they are trying to arrest Jugal.
