Man ‘murdered’ before hundreds of people in Cumilla

A man has been hacked and beaten to death before hundreds of people in broad daylight at Changini area of Cumilla city on Friday afternoon.
The deceased, Akter Hossain, 55, is the son of late Ali Hossain, a resident of Ward No. 23 of Cumilla City Corporation. He was involved in the hotel and land business.
The incident took place in front of Changini Mosque at 1.50 pm. Upon receiving the news, the police arrested three brothers of Alamgir Hossain, senior joint convener of Cumilla City Juba League and
councillor of Ward 23 of Cumilla City Corporation.
At least six others were injured while trying to save Akhtar, locals said.
They said Akhter was killed due to previous enmity.
Nazrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cumilla Sadar South Model Police Station, said, “Councillor Alamgir and his brothers openly attacked Akhtar. His three brothers have been arrested. The body has been sent to Cumilla Medical College for autopsy.”
