A 31-year-old man was found dead with his hands tied behind at a field beside Abdul Latif Road in Chittagong’s Mirsharai upazila on Wednesday
Deceased’s family claimed that Ekramul Huq, son of Hanif Koshai, of south Ambari, went to offer Asr prayers on Tuesday but later some locals informed them that he was hacked and beaten by Khoyachora Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Zahed Iqbal Chowdhury and his followers, including owner of a filling station and a Jubo League leader, centering a dispute over land near the filling station.
Earlier, the family filed a case against the filling station owner for trying to kill Ekramul a year ago.
However, police and Iqbal said Ekramul used to mug tourists in Khoyachora water fall area and he died in a mob-beating after being caught red-handed on Tuesday.
According to inquest report, the body bore several hacking injuries, and his right ear, and tongue were cut off.
Mirsharai police said Ekramul was accused in some five cases of murder attempt and fighting. They are investigating about the hack injuries and a murder case would be filed against unidentified accused, police added.
Two killed in road accident: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in Chittagong on Wednesday. One youth was killed in a road accident at Moijjartek area at Karna-phuli bridge in Chittagong Tuesday night. The victim was identified as Mohammad Kayum (30).
Locals and sources said, Kayum was returning home from work and waiting for vehicle at Moijjartek area at Karnaphuli bridge in Chittagong at around 10 pm. At that time, one speedy truck hit him causing his death on the spot.
On the other hand, one Rafaiel Mondol (52) was waiting for bus at Tigerpass area to go to his office at CEPZ area at around 8 am. At that time, one speedy bus hit him and he killed on the spot.
The bodies of the victim were sent to morgue for autopsy. Separate cases were filed in this connection, sources in police said.
