A man slaughtered his wife and burnt their suckling daughter to death at Pashchim Joynagar of Daulatkhan upazila in Bhola district on Saturday morning.
The victims were identified as Shahnaj Begum, 30, and nine months old Mohana, said Superintendent of Police Moktar Hossain.
Police arrested Billal the accused. He is now undergoing treatment at Bhola General Hospital under custody, the SP said.
Quoting locals, Enayet Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Daulatkhan Police Station, said, “Local people spotted the dead bodies of Shahnaj and Mohana in the morning and informed the local police station. Police recovered the bodies and saw that Shahnaj was slaughtered.”
“An initial investigation indicated that Billal slaughtered his wife to death and set fire to the house where his daughter was. Locals took the burnt child to the hospital, but she died on the way,” the OC said.
Shahnaj’s brother filed a case with the police station in this connection, he said. The bodies were sent to Modern Sadar Hospital for post mortem.
