Staff Reporter :
The body of a woman named Sharmin Akter has been recovered from the cabin of Kuakata-2, a passenger launch, bound for Barisal from Dhaka. In this connection, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the woman’s husband Masod.
According to the RAB, despite marrying Sharmin, Masod was not
interested in living together in a family with her.
But even if he wanted to divorce Sharmin, he did not have the power to pay five lakh taka as Denmahr. There were frequent quarrels between them.
At last, Masod planned to kill Sharmin 15-20 days before the murder. Five days before the incident, Sharmin contracted cold and cough. On the occasion of Sharmin’s illness, Masod poisoned her with cough syrup.
Sharmin was then suffocated to death.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the RAB’s Legal and Media Wing, made the announcement in a press conference at the RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar of the capital on Monday afternoon.
According to Khandaker Al Moin, when the launch Kuakata-2 reached Barisal on Friday morning, the body of the woman named Sharmin Akter was recovered. The day after the incident, the victim’s father filed a murder case with the Barisal Kotwali Model Police Station, RAB Director said.
During preliminary interrogation, Masood confessed to the murder on the launch.
According to sources, Masod had been working as a pickup van helper for a company in Ashulia since 2012. Victim Sharmin worked in a garment factory for 12 years from her uncle’s house in Kunipara, Tejgaon, Dhaka.
They were introduced in early 2019 and before the marriage Sharmin filed a rape case in the name of Masod with the Airport Police Station.
Later, with the consent of both the families, they got married on November 17, 2019 at Sharmin’s uncle’s house. After marriage they did not live together, but stayed at their respective workplaces, RAB officials added.
