A man named Mintu Mia hacked to death three people including his wife at Putal village in Sreebardi upazila of Sherpur district on Thursday at about 8.30 pm. The deceased were identified as his wife Monira Begum (33), mother in law Shefali Begum (52) and father in law’s elder brother Md Mahmud (65).
Three were also seriously injured and they are Batchuni Begum (50) wife of Ahad Ali, Manu Mia (65) son of Joynal Abedin and Shahadat Hossain (40) son of Monu Mia.
Local and familial sources said a conflict between Monira Begum and Mintu Mia were going on for the last few days. On Thursday Mintu Mia disguised himself a woman wearing burqa and entered in his father in law’s house. Then he stabbed his wife Monira to death. His mother in law and other came forward to save her but Mintu attacked on all of them. Monira died on spot and the other two died on the way to hospital.
Later, the local rescued them and took them to the nearby Bakshiganj Health Complex. The doctor on duty declared Shefali Begum and Mahmud dead and seriously injured Shahadat and Batchuni Begum have been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Mintu Mia, son of Hai Uddin of nearby Geramara village of Sreebardi upazila got married Monira, daughter of Manu Mia of Putal village of the same upazila. They have a son and a daughter.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sherpur Hasan Nahid Chowdhury visited the spot.
