A man was killed in an attack by his rivals over previous enmity at Chotodesh village in Kanaighat upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Tota Mia, 46, a tractor driver and son of late Tajul Ali of the village.
Witnesses said Tota Mia and his neighbour Shahidur Rahman had been at loggerheads over the ownership of land of a road near their houses.
As a sequel to the enmity, an altercation ensued between Tota Mia and Shahidur Rahman after Juma prayer over the issue and at one stage Shahidur beat up Tota Mia mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Abdul Awal Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Kanaighat Police Station, confirmed the incident.
