A man was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in Garerpar area of Kurigram town on Tuesday morning.
The victim was identified as Hossain Ali, 70, a former Inspector of the Directorate of Family Planning. He was also a Christian by faith.
Hossain Ali was converted to Christianity from Islam along with his family members around 17 years ago, said Kurigram district pastor Forkan Al Mashi.
Police and witnesses said that a gang of miscreants came on a motorbike and started hacking Hossain Ali when he was having his morning walk
near his house at about 7:00am. He died on the spot. Becoming sure of death, they left the scene, exploding a number of hand bombs.
Md Tabarak Ullah, Superintendent of Police of Kurigram said that two fresh hand bombs were recovered from the spot.
“We are not disclosing details about the incident for the sake of investigation,” he said.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Kurigram Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.
A case had been filed in this connection, the SP said.
