A worker died and seven others were injured when a portion of under-construction roof collapsed in Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur district on Friday afternoon.
The injured men were sent to Dhaka Medical College and
Hospital (DMCH) and Gazipur Sadar Hospital in a critical condition, said Md Akhtaruzzaman, Assistant Deputy Director of the Gazipur Fire Service.
“Firefighters have launched a rescue operation. It can’t be said right now whether any more worker has remained under the debris,” he said.
Moshiur Rahman, a witness, said, a portion of the roof of the building collapsed around 12:30pm leaving some workers trapped under the debris.
At least seven people were rescued in a critical condition and sent to the hospitals, said Md Izzat Ali Khan, a local Union Council Member.
