Man killed in city gunfight with RAB

A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the city’s Anandanagar area under Badda Police Station in the small hours of Friday.
The victim has been identified as Jahirul Islam Bijoy alias Kutta Jahir, 32, son of Malek Ali, said RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Senior Assistant Director Major Md Maksudul Alam.
Two RAB members were also injured in the shootout, he said.
The elite force official said, “Jahirul was trying to escape the arrest by firing at the RAB-1 team around 2:30am. Then RAB fired in defense and Jahirul sustained bullet injuries.”
Jahirul was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 3:30am, he said.
He said that Jahirul had been accused of several charges including murder and extortion.
The RAB official said that two guns, two rounds of bullets and a bullet shell were recovered from the scene of the gun battle.
The body was kept at DMCH morgue.
