A balloon vendor has died in a gas cylinder explosion at Savar’s Ashulia. According to police, the incident took place at Taiyabpur’s Barnachchhata picnic spot on Friday noon.
The deceased has been identified as Rabiul Islam, 30, from Rangpur. He used to sell balloons at various places near Savar Upazila. Ashulia Police SI Avijit Chowdhury said Islam was using the gas cylinder to inflate balloons for selling those to the visitors at the picnic spot. At one point,
the cylinder exploded. Islam’s left leg was severed from his body. Locals rushed him to Dhaka’s National Institute of Grammatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR). But he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
SI Chowdhury added that the officials of the picnic spot’s management authority fled after the incident.
Police would soon lodge a case, he added.
