A team of Customs Intelligence seized one kg of gold worth around Tk 50 lakh from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Tuesday afternoon and arrested a passenger in this connection. The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Zakir Hossain, inhabitant of Chadpur district, customs officials said.
Customs Intelligence Department’s Assistant Commissioner (AC) Umme Nahida said that customs
officials conducted a drive in the Green Channel area at about 12:30pm and intercepted Zakir. They searched his body and found the gold in a charger light.
She said that Zakir came to Dhaka from Kuala Lumpur by a flight of Malaysian Airlines. He is being interrogated in this connection, the AC said.
