Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials arrested a man along with large amount of foreign currencies worth Tk. 15,86,200 in the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Saturday.
Kamrul Islam, a resident of sadar upazila in Munshiganj, was arrested before boarding a flight of Malaysian Airlines Flight.
Tipped off, the CIID team was monitoring Kamrul’s movement after he completed his immigration formalities.
When Mamun was about to board the aircraft, CIID officials challenged him around 11:45am, said director general of the CIID Dr Moinul Khan.
After searching him they recovered the foreign currencies, including Saudi Riyal, Malaysian Ringgit hidden in his shoes. A case was filed with Airport police station.
