Customs officials held a man with 60 gold bars weighing 6.9kg, worth Tk 5.17 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Wednesday morning.
Mohabbat Ali, a resident of Narayanganj, was carrying the gold bars attached to his body. A team of customs (preventive) apprehended him at the boarding bridge area after he landed at the airport via the Ek-582 flight from Dubai around 8:30am, Mohammad Marufur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Customs told The New Nation.
Quoting the detainee, the official said, He is a frequent traveller and went to Dubai nearly a week ago. The value of the gold is around Tk 5.17 crore. Legal steps against him, Marufur said.
