A team of customs officials in a drive arrested a passenger with foreign currencies worth around Tk 18 lakh at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Monday morning.
The arrested person has been identified as Nowsher Raihan, 34, hailed from Lakshmipur, customs official said.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan said “Nowsher was
detained from boarding bridge 16 of the airport at around 9:00am. He was hiding the currencies inside his hand bag.”
They recovered currencies include Saudi Arabian Riyal, Euro, Qatari Riyal, UAE Dirham and Thai Baht, the DG said.
During interrogation, Nowsher told the detectives that he has a cosmetic business in Chowkbazar in the capital and was travelling to Bangkok, Thailand.
