A person was arrested with unlicensed firearm from the TSC area near the venue of the ruling Awami League’s ongoing 21st National Council on Friday afternoon.
The person identified as Nurul Islam Khan Russell, 40, was held by Shahbagh Police, while he was entering the Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan around 3:45pm on Friday.
According to police, Russell claimed to have travelled from Tangail to join the council.
The arrest was made shortly after Awami League President Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the council.
DMP Deputy Commissioner Hasinuzzaman said, ”We are still looking into the matter as to why did he bring the firearm at venue?”.
