Customs Intelligence officials in a drive seized at least 94 Bangladeshi passports from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the small hours of Wednesday.
They also arrested a passenger in this connection. The arrested man was identified as Saiful Islam, 36, customs official said.
Md Reyadul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Customs Department said that Saiful landed in Dhaka around 12:05am by a Malinda Airlines aircraft. “We became suspicious about Saiful’s movement and started to follow him. When we were scanning his luggage we found nothing but some little book object materials. We thought that we might get some clue about him,” the AC said. And after opening his bag, the official recovered 94 blank Bangladeshi passports of both readable and manual, he said.
The passport might be used in human trafficking and smuggling, the customs official said.
An address written with the box was Meem Enterprise, 115/23, Inner Circular Road, Dhaka, the AC said.
The arrested man was handed over to Airport Police Station, he said. A case was filed in this connection with the police station, he added.
