Police arrested a rice trader with 70,000 kilograms of rice of the government’s food friendly programme from Pahartali rice market in Chattogram.
Deputy Commissioner of ?Chattogram Metropolitan Police Farook ul Haque informed this at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
The rice imported from India by the Food Ministry was supposed to be deposited to the LSD godown of Noakhali’s Charbhata, he said, adding that instead those were kept at the godown of
Abdul Bahar, owner of M/S Mahee Traders.
Acting on secret information, detectives raided the godown and seized 260 sacks imported rice and 1400 sacks imported rice from inside the godown, he added.
The trader confessed to sell those government rice in open market after changing the sacks having his own shop’s logo.
