A smuggler was arrested with 30 kilograms of gold in Damurhuda Upazila on Friday afternoon.
The man was identified as Anwarul Islam, 34, son of Mansur Ali of Jibannagar Upazila’s Mergimari village.
Acting on a tip-off, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troopers took position in the bordering Parkrishnapur Madna village in Damurhuda in the morning.

“Around noon, the smuggler was crossing the area
on a motorcycle. We found 260 gold bars hidden inside the motorcycle seat,” said Imam Hasan, director of Chuadanga-6 BGB.
“The gold bars have an estimated market value of Tk 14 crore,” he added.
