Customs intelligence officials arrested a man and recovered 12 gold bars from his stomach at Benapole check post on Wednesday noon.
The arrestee is Shaidullah Khan, 37, son of Altab Uddin, hailing from Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj district. Nipun Chakma, assistant director of Benapole Customs, said tipped off, a team of customs intelligence arrested Shaidullah and detected gold bars in his stomach through an X-ray.
Later, they recovered the gold bars worth Tk 60 lakh. Shaidullah was handed over to Benapole Police Station and a case was filed in this connection, the official added.
