Man held for raping 5-year-old girl

Police arrested a man on charge of raping a five-year-old girl in port city’s Panchlaish area on Saturday night.
The arrestee is Md Sohel (18), son of Abdul Mannan hailing from Bahubal upazila of Habiganj district, said police sources.
Sohel is a tea seller at Sholokbahar area and police arrested him from Panchlaish area after receiving complaint from the victim’s family, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kashem Bhuiyan of Panchlaish police station.
Quoiting the case statement, OC Abul Kashem said Sohel took the child to his house at Bhora Pukurpar after she went to his shop to buy candies on August 15 afternoon and raped her.
Later noticing the physical condition of the victim, family members rushed her to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Saturday evening where the doctors referred her to One Stop Crisis Centre of the hospital, said the OC.
On information from locals, police rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital and recorded the victim’s statement.
Based on her statement, police arrested the culprit from his house, said OC Abul Kashem.
A case has been lodged in this connection with the police station.
Drug trader held : Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a drug trader and recovered 26100 pieces of yaba tablets after searching from Salt laden truck at Shah Amanat bridge area under Bakalia thana early Saturday.
The arrested youth was identified as truck driver Mohammad Moshiur Rahman Liton, 35, hailed from Patuakhali district, reports BSS.
Masfukur Rahman, Assistant Director of RAB-7 said based on information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive at the Rajbari Convention Centre of Bakulia around 5.45 am and seized 26100 pieces of contraband pills concealed inside Dhaka bound salt laden truck from Cox’s Bazar. RAB also detained the truck.Masfukur Rahman told journalists that legal action will be taken against the detainee.
