A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a farmer in Nakal upazila in 2013.
The convict is Saiful Islam, son of Halku Miah of Kaiyakuri village in the upazila. He was also fined Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer four months more in prison.
According to the prosecution, Saiful Islam hit neighbour Mohidul in the head over a land dispute on January 5, 2013, leaving him critically injured.
Mohidul was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after five days.
Victim’s father Kafil Uddin filed a murder case with Nakla Police Station accusing four people. Police submitted a charge-sheet against three of them.
After examining the records and six witnesses, Additional District and Session’s Judge Md Mosleh Uddin handed down the verdict acquitting two accused — Saiful’s mother Kariman Nesa and aunt Sufia Khatun.
