A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for trading drugs in Companyganj upazila in 2011.
The court also fined the convict, identified as M Azir Uddin, 35, son of late Abdul Malek of Dalergaon village in Companyganj upazila, Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer one year more of rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, tipped off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-9 launched a raid on at the house of Azir Uddin and recovered 70 bottles of contraband Indian Phensidyl syrup worth Tk 28,000 from the house on November 13, 2011.
Azir, however, managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of Rab team.
